Nature Rambles, written by Mohan V. Chunkath, a career bureaucrat who had worked earlier as the Additional Chief Secretary in charge of Forests & Environment, Government of Tamil Nadu, is a collection of photographs and information on some of the common species of fauna and flora that can be found in and around any Indian city. The book contains information on close to 200 species, including flowers, birds, trees, and butterflies. Every photograph is accompanied by a short yet informative note. Since the writer himself has personally photographed each species, he expertly comments on where they can be found and also provides some other information like their habitat, breeding, and food habits. The book also contains an account of bird calls by various types of birds. It is a beautifully illustrated book on the different types of plants and animals in India and is a unique celebration of urban biodiversity.
